Need some help

I have a 88 ranger automatic transmission with a three inch body lift that I installed drove the truck for 8 months then I lost overdrive I change the filter fluid and the valve body. The transmission was rebuilt a year before I purchased the truck. Now i have reverse od drive an 2 no first the floor shifter is sloppy I was told to take the linkage out and add 3 inches into it. any thoughts would be a big help thank you for your time

You are describing two different things????

One is an internal automatic trans operation problem, i.e. losing OD, or losing 1st

The other is the external mechanical movement of the shifter arm on transmission.

If transmission is in D or 2nd then it should start in 1st, if it doesn't then that is an internal issue not related to shifter.

A4LD must get new main pump(Ford only model), forward one-way clutch and OD drum when rebuilt, just replacing the soft parts, bands, clutches and servos, will require another rebuild in approx. 12 to 18 months.

I went back and looked at it today I have od drive and 2 I can manually move it into 1. By the shifter in the floor where it has the letter d it's really od now
