i just got another ranger, its a 93, STX with 74-75XXX on the chassis with 20K on the motor... there is a oil leak on it some where... but i noticed there alot of oil build up around my rear end cover... like alot... do i would like to clean that off... but i crawled under the truck and i noticed it was wet on the trans pan...so i thought it was there too... but where do i get gaskets from? whats a reasonable price?
i'll post up some pics for you...

also how do i tell what one i have... is all factory...

You can get the trans pan gasket at any local parts store; AutoZone, NAPA, Pep Boys, etc. for a few bucks. Are you asking which trans you have or which rear end? Find out your trans HERE, and your rear end HERE. Hope that helps:icon_thumby:

ok thanks... do i have to take the axles out and all that when i pull the rear end cover off or will i be ok...

just unbolt the cover and take it off, thats it. keep a drain pan underneath to catch the oil. after it's drained and the cover is off, scrape all of the old gasket off. clean it all well and use some RTV to seal the cover back up. no need for a paper gasket. once its all together, refill with 75w-90. should take just under 3 quarts IIRC. that's assuming that it is the cover that is leaking anyways.

for the trans, it's pretty much the same thing. use a gasket there if you can get one, dont forget to change the filter while you are in there.

what is IIRC? should i let the RTV sit for like 24 hours or something before i fill it with oil and drive it? it looks as if on the trans pan i have a rubber reuseable gasket on there and its leaking all over...each bolt has a little fluid on it... could it be something else...

it's just under 2 quarts of oil for the axle, not 3

if you want to let it sit for about half an hour for the RTV to set up a little that should be about all you need, you don't need to use a lot of the stuff, just a very thin smear, there's enough bolts to seal it good.

IIRC = If I Recall Correctly

ahh... so i got another question about the rear end... the axle housing bolts to a leaf sping the leafs bolt on the Shackles and then that goes to a mont on the truck... any one know i can order new ones... mine are really rusty and the main frame isnt that rusted at all... any ideas?
