I've got a 2004 Ranger XL, it has the basic stereo set-up. I want to upgrade the stereo to one that has an audio input for my iPhone. Can anyone help me with a simple / inexpensive direct replacement unit that has an audio input port. I would like to do this work myself also.

Yah, I know this is not nearly as much fun as other threads with big powered sub-woofers, but it's all I need and would really help me out, Thanks

I use an Alpine IDA-X303 in my truck but I'm gonna assume that most people want a CD player in their HU.

Look for an HU with a USB Port. I personally have experience with Pioneer and Alpine, and both units work well with Ipods.

There was some problems with the IPhone at first (charging Problem)but by now these problems have been corrected. Alpine for example might require the purchase of the KCE-433iv cable for some models.

Do a little research but there are many units available to do what you want

lol its funny you say that. some of that huddle around the audio section some times get tired of the same old same old we like the change up.
but as far as your question. there are three ways to go about this.

one any cheep pioneer with and 1/8 stereo input jack can let you play music like an i pod would super cheep and easy. HU $100ish mounting kit 20ish cable $3 but you have to control the music with the phone and you dont get to charge. but you can play vid thru it.

two some head unit in the 150-175 range with a usb, this is were it gets washy cheeper ones still have the charging issue, some you will still have to use the phone to control the songs you get kinda mix and match, but if you can find one that can charge and control the phone with the head unit is a bonus. with the usb you can charge and control it its the hu limitations not the connection.

three $$$ has a cable that you can charge and run the phone with the head unit. and $$$$$$$$ you can use the phone thur the head unit so if some one calls you can pick it up via blue tooth.

id look around for number two:icon_thumby:

Thanks, your first solution is the type I'm looking for. I have a car charger, so it's just one additional cord to plug into the phone, the headphone jack cord and the charger. I will be getting a mount that puts the phone in easy sight, so I can see the GPS mapping as well. Do you have a specific Pioneer model that fits well into a Ranger?? I really know nothing about the different models available.

Thanks again for the help!

Greg

hu are done in "din" single din din 1/2 or double din. any thing you get from walmart for $100ish is single din. that will fit but you have to get the mounting kit for it.

you have a two din slot so your mounting kit will have a cd holder thing that can go on the bottom to fill the gap

just look for a solid stereo brand like pioneer or alpine and look for the features you want. I'd recommend ones with the specific ipod hook up because it powers it and gives pretty decent audio quality. costs about 20-30 bucks for the cable
