Alright I have a 2.9 ranger and right now I have the converter (empty case) then straight piece of pipe to and two clambered muffler and over the axle to rear tire. It's all three inches and I did this because I had it handy and didn't know at the time my truck had 4.10 gears. So I need some opinions on what size and what kind of muffler I should run. I'm considering 2 1/4" ran about same way with a single in single out magnaflow muffler. I want something that sounds good but is kinda quiet.

So you ran 3" tube and gutted your cat with 2 (TWO) chambered mufflers (on a 2.9L no less) but still want your truck quiet?

First thing I'd do is put a universal fit cat back on it (OBDI cats are cheap), this will even things out and won't make it pop as much, will also somewhat have a muffling effect.

Look for performance mufflers that don't advertise the sound so much. More baffles or chambers the better.

Honestly though, there is only one kind of muffler that sounds good on a V6 that isn't built to the hilt, a quiet one.

i have a 3.0 with 2.25 to the muffler then from the muffler out i have 2.5 but i have a single in single out magnaflow shorty exiting BEFORE the tire. i like it, it has a good sound it would probably be alot quieter if it exited out the back. i can here it when i drive but its also almost under the cab.

i have 2 1/2 inch from the first gutted cat back, like that when i bought the truck, into a cherry bomb glass pack and a 16 inch 4" tip infront of the rear tire, has a really good tone for a 4.0

Another question. Would that big of an exhaust throw the idle off. O2 sensor not reading correctly? It isles horribly. I mean runs like a top. But can tell. Somethin still ain't right at idle. I've been wanting to to the maf conversion but can't find parts.
