Need security camera recommendations....

Costco sells a set of 4 weatherproof, nightvision/color cameras and everything to install it for like $400-$600(can't remember exactly but I remember thinking it was cheap) bossman has a couple sets at work and they work pretty darned well, they're wired but it gives you over 100yds per camera. Comes with a control box that hooks to a computer moniter or comes with one idk. He's got them connected to a router so he can check the darned things from his smart phone but it's pretty neat, live video of his property any time he wants and a record of all goings on.

It sucks that the laws give the criminals more rights than the property owners..... A few(all) maimed thieves would go along way towards dissuading dishonest "expletive" people from going that route.

I already have a couple indoor security cameras, but there is no good place to set them to watch the property and they're set up to play through a TV or VCR. I want something that I can run a continuous loop sort of deal - something that can be tripped by motion and I can just run through it at the end of the day and record over it if there's nothing important.

I've thought of tire spikes, but so far the thieves have never used one of the driveways, they've carried everything out to the road. I have thought of putting up a fence... preferably barbed wire and electric, but....

I'd like to get a dog... or two....

Only thing wrong with that is it is against the law to do what you say you have done. I have a lot of cop and US Federal friends and thay told me not to do anything like that. It is a federal crime to do so if you are caught. But, you need to be more worried about the wrong people who you piss off doing this as well. They may just come back to blow up your place or hunt you down. There are some really sick people in our world nowadays as you know. So, I would rather have the signs posted and the video cameraa aeound. If they get into my house when we are home I have the right to take their lives.

Pa is a Castle Doctrine state. We are allowed to do pretty much anything we want to defend our properties.

I have a program for use with a web cam. It has a security cam feature that trips and starts auto recording when it detects motion. I'm not sure how you'd set that up outside, but I have the program and at least one camera somewhere that I'd donate to the cause.

NO you don't. If any Law Enforcement agency ever had to go onto your property for whatever reason (arson fires, escaped criminals or to serve a search warrant) and the home or property is 'Booby Trapped'' you will be changed with a federal violation. The same with placing an explosive device or trip wire or any type is a vilolation as well.

If any "escaped criminals" are on my property they will need an undertaker, not a law enforcement officer.

Is this really just going to become an argument on what is legal and what isn't?

All I want is some advice for securing my property. And preferably find out what sort of security cameras would be best to invest in to help do so.

Dicks had some game cameras for sale pretty cheap a while back. Dunno if they still have any. Camo pattern, battery powered, motion activated.

I agree with the Costco thing, I have seen some great set-ups for a good price and a former boss bought one there that had the continuous loop, motion sence and remote viewing from anywhere you had internet access.

I feel the same way about that...I am talking about lets say when you are not there, or not near the responce team seeking to come onto the property, a fire breaks out or is set intentionally or a plane crash lands near or on your property or feds are chasing dangerous criminals to be exact. If you notify the authorities or on hand before they enter the property that is different.

Ubiquiti (maker of excellent long range wireless networking equipment) just released their new Air Vision line of networked security cameras. They come with highly configurable DVR software. I haven't had a chance to look at one up close yet, but if you can find anybody that has one in stock they're about $100.

harbor freight has some solar powered ones, everything there is cheap though, so they may not be worth the hassle

Do you have 110v at the points of interest?
I have been using an Wilife system for the last few years, it works ok for what it sounds like you want. The motion video captures work well. The cameras tend to die about 1 year of use. I think it also has been replaced by a slightly newer design, but an old review http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,1948092,00.asp#fbid=AjCtcskcdrd
