I have 91 4X4, 4.0L I need info on what wheels will fit on it.

The truck currently has aftermarket wheels on it and they stick out beyond the fenders. I want to get rid of them and put more stock like Ranger wheels on it. I assume any pre 98' 4X4 Ranger wheels will fit (yes/no?).

I checked the tech section and still have several questions.

1. Will 15-7 inch 2X4 wheels fit on this truck or do they have to be off a 4X4? It came with 15-7 wheels originally and I would like to go back to that size.

2. If 2X4 wheels will fit, will any (earlier than 98') 15-7 inch wheels fit?

3. Same questions about putting Explorer wheels on my Ranger.

Thanks, Ed

Sounds like what you're looking for is a wheel with less backspacing.

2x4/4x4 shouldn't matter, just make sure to get a wheel with a 5x5.5 bolt pattern (I.E. any stock ranger/expo, and some jeeps). Do a quick google search on wheel backspacing, you'll find something to explain it ina more concise way than I could. Measure the backspacing on your current wheels, and make sure your new ones are an inch or two less.

Maybe someone could chime in with the stock wheels BS measurements?

I had a 1991 2wd and it had 5x4.5" lug spacing just like my 1998 4x4. The 1998 has 15" rims where the '91 had 14" rims. I do believe you're looking for 15x7 with a 5 on 4.5" lug spacing. I don't remember the backspacing measurement off hand but I'll see what I can find...

I have owned several BII's and Rangers and I do know that BII, Rangers and Explorers all have 5x4.5 bolt pattern. if I remember right...1998 and up 4x4 Ranger front wheels won’t work on 1983-1997 4x4 Rangers. Center hole area is a different size.

Do a search on the site. I know this has been brought up a number of times. Check the Tech area out.

Thanks guys,
I know about the 98 and up thing. I was mainly concerned about 2X4 and 4X4 thing.
Glad to know the Bronco/Explorer wheels will fit.

Some styles fit and some don't, it depends on the style of rim.

You can have a machine shop enlarge the holes to fit whatever centercap floats your boat and clear the front lockout though.
