Hi TRS friends!

I have an 83 with the v6 2.8. I had to replace the original oil cap years ago because I dropped it on the manifold and it melted. I got a replacement from the local parts store and its trash. It blew off constantly and the nozzle broke. I'm looking to find myself a nice used or NOS one, but I can't find either.

I found this pic on the internet and it's exactly how mine looked before - pure yellow. This one even has a part number on it but nothing shows up online looking like this. I'm wondering if anybody here has one and if they'd be willing to ship to 53066 Wisconsin. Please PM me with price and if you have one.

Thanks,
Karl

Hi dvdswan,

Thanks for the link, but as I said in my previous post I'm looking for a NOS similar to the picture I posted or one that's used.

The fit isn't going to be limited to just the Ranger, or Ford. After doing a quick search I noticed other manufacturers in the vehicle compatibility chart. So, you will have to get the dimensions and go from there. Concentrate on the various models that used that engine (Pinto, Mustang II, Bronco II,) and don't forget the ones that used the 2.9 L version. I noticed the 1988 2.9L Merkur Scorpio uses the same part. I would suggest getting the dimensions and if it pops in, twists and locks, etc. and email or call to see if you can find one that will fit. You can get some of the dimensions from the specifications given by aftermarket part manufacturers.

This thread is about finding a NOS oil cap. Mine blew off the other day also, and I stumbled on some crossover numbers if you do want to buy a "new" aftermarket cap. Figured I would put it in this thread so it would come up in a search later on.

This is what I ended up buying. https://www.autozone.com/emission-c...her-cap/p/spectre-oil-breather-cap/309741_0_0

Rummaging around, I found the old rubber body mount bushings where I had replaced them and had not thrown the old ones away. Some of the insets on the rubber mounts just fit over the metal pipe coming out of the valve cover on the 2.8. I did not feel like the inset was deep enough to hold it down tight, so I took a dremel and ground the rubber out a little deeper so the body mount would slide onto the valve cover pipe farther. I then took the above Spectre breather and used some Seal-All and glued the rubber body mount to the bottom of the breather. We will see how it works.
