Ok, I went to get shocks the other day at the local Idiot counter and since there computer only lists lifts for up 2" they couldn't help me. My ranger has about a 4" rear 3" front. I put ranchos in it last time and they only (only) lasted 6 years and 90K miles. But now when I went to get new ones they said they only go up to 2" lift???

Does the extra inch or two matter?

I'd like a good shock, I do a bit of hauling with it, I have Full size bronco springs in it. Will an F-150 or bronco shock work? What length do I need?

Rears measure 27" bolt to bolt with truck sitting on the ground
Front Measures 17" bolt to mount plate with truck sitting on the ground

Found this:

I'm figuring when the truck is sitting in the driveway I'm measuring 27 Rear and 17 front.

Rear shock I found was a RS5254 with a Overall extented lentgh of 30", a travel of 12.5" and a compressed length of 18"

Should I be trying to get my at rest hieght closer to the middle? ...but I'm figuring how much more Susp droop will I have if I lift it up? not more than like 2 or 3"???

I just put skyjackers on my truck today, they ride very well for how rough my truck normally is. Also make sure you get longer rather than shorter shocks, I bet you could not overcompress your shocks with ttb springs, although it is easy to over extend them if they are too short and it feels like you are getting kicked in the kidneys when you hit a bump. Ask me how I know

Local parts idiot? I work in the retail parts business. Yes there are others with more parts knowledge but you do not have to have a extensive parts knowledge to work at a parts store most who are just starting to work there have none at all.

But back to the matter at hand. When I was gathering parts for my used lift I called rancho's tech line and they told me the same thing as my computer system did. They didn't make a shock for anything over a 2 inch lift. I was able to track down part numbers for the correct shocks but for the price I just ordered some from jeffs bronco graveyard.

List for rancho part numbers.

Very sorry, No offense meant, just some of those guys need ...well, i'm sure you know. I did work at one myself a while ago before I knew anything but I knew enough to get help.

anyway, I just need to know where to put the at rest number. If at rest I'm at 27" and the travel on the shock is 12" do I put it directly in the middle.
So full extend would be 27+6 (33) and full comp would be 27-6 (21) or do I bias it more towards the compression???

You probably wont get enough flex without some serious mods for it to matter too much, but I would go middle

You can never go wrong with a set of blisteins. But a good set of gas charged shocks will perform pretty dang good on a mild lifted truck

Its ok... lol didn't mean to go off on a rant. Most of the time they dont have to common sense or training to do anything but look at the screen and tell you what it says. I just read it all the time on the forums. lol. Like I said I went with a set of shocks for jeffs bronco graveyard they seem ok for the money. I have never been in a truck with bilsteins but I hear they are great shocks.
