Ok so I'm new to owning a fuel injected truck and I've only owned my 92 Ford Ranger 3.0 liter for about a week. I have already spent 300 dollars on parts for it and still havent figured out the problem to get it running good again. My problem is from time to time it wont start and it just dies like it ran out of gas going down the road but I just replaced the fuel pump and fuse to it a few days ago and it works most of the time. It just acts like it isnt getting any fuel. The truck does in fact get fire from the spark plugs and fuel from the fuel pump. I am not sure however if the fuel pump isnt somehow getting shut off from time to time though. I have replaced the ignition modular and the distributer too. I know that my air filter hose has a few holes in it that have been taped before but i would like to know if it does have a leak and isn't getting enough air if my mass air flow sensor that is mounted on my air filter box could be disabling my fuel pump because the motor isnt getting enough air.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

okay well why would it run half of the time if the fuel pump cutoff switch is thrown? and where is teh fuel pump cutoff switch located?

the switch is usually inside the truck on the passenger side at the top of the floorboard (lift up the carpet)

Yeah it is right there...but it is a go-nogo switch! If it ever does work that switch is in the go position.. Once it fails it must be reset before it will allow the engine to start again.
What about the fuel pressure regulator?

There have been MANY cases where the inertia switch is intermittent and does not indicate needing reset.

You can remove its connector and jumper the two harness pins together to rule it out. Replace it if that works, of course.

It may also be the fuel pump relay itself. I believe yours will be mounted under the fuse panel in the engine compartment. You should check if the fuel pump is running anytime it won't start or dies on the road. It should run for a couple seconds each time you turn the key from Off to Run (without going all the way to Crank).

thanks for all of the davice but it was just my mass air flow sensor shutting off my fuel pump because my air filter hose is all tore up.....they want too much for a new one so mine is now taped

Same thing happend to me. I used foil duct tape to fix it, works great.
