Hey guys. I want to swap a 90-93 4.0 and trans into my 88 2.9 xcab ranger. I have read the tech library entries but I still have questions.
I cant find a complete doaner so it looks like I'm going to have to do this the hard way, but I'm committed.
-What is the best tranny to put behind the 4.0? FM146, M50D-R1 etc
-What parts do I need besides the engine w/ accesories, tranny, ecu, and wiring harness?
-If I find a harness, is it imperative that I find one from a similar vehicle if I can't get all of the parts from the same truck? i.e. 4X4, 5-speed, 4.0 etc...
-If the right harness is found will any connectors be left unused if coming from an expo into my ranger?
-Anything else anyone thinks I should know please post that too. It's not my first swap but based on everything I have read I have a lot of ducks to get in a row before I get started. This will be my first swap with a lift and a shop full of tools but this time I'm worried about having all the correct/compatible parts.
Thanks for the help,
JB
