need help

ok so heres the deal i have an 87 ranger with a 2.3 and a c3 trans the trans was a shade tree install before i got the truck the ghetto riged kickdown cable was the dead give away on that.ok now the problem got the truckiv been driving it with a bad trans modulator got the new one finily and now the trans shifts strate in to 3rd and more orless just jumps over 1st and 2nd tryed adjusting thenew modulator and it helped just a bit but still shifts thru all gears within 3-4 seconds after i take off from a dead stop. as this is my only means of trasportaion i need toget this resolved asap.

new mod part number is 747007 from pioneer inc is this the right part for this trans

Driving with a bad modulator can damage the servos, pistons, and valve body in the trans.
You may have damaged the above if you or the previous owners drove very long with a bad modulator.

It's possible that the governor in the tail shaft is sticking.

well the nearest i can figur isit has been bad for better than 10 years my dad had it befor me and it has always run real slugish and shifts a bet on the high side but when i replace the modulator it runs worst than it did. now a few weeks back the trans messed up and left me on theside of the road with no revese or 3rd gears i had it towed to my house and as we unloaded it revese kicked in and started to work and have not had a problem out of the trans since what could be the cause of that and would any one think i would spend more trowing part at this thing or would i come out better just replaceing the trans with the a4ld like it came new with
