Need help.

my older brother has an 89 fire bird it has the efi 2.8 with a 5 speed. I need some help figureing out whats wrong with it. it idles rough, and once it gets up to about 3000 rpm it loses power. please help, im sorry i cant give a better description of the problem but like i said its my brothers car and we dont live in the same state.

This is by no means definitive or absolute but I ran into that problem on an 86 BMW and it turned out to be a clogged catalytic converter. If the RPM won't go over a certain amount then something is restricting it like air flow in being obstructed, fuel flow, or exhaust out being obstructed.

thanks thats kinda what i was thinking. but would that cause it to try and die out any time you put in into gear?
