im trying to drop the transmission on my 94 to change the clutch but cant seem to get to the top two bolts on the trans that go into the engine. any suggestions?
Leave the tranny crossmember attached to the trans, but disconnected from the frame. Leave the exhaust hanger that bolts to the trans crossmember disconnected.
Use the crossmember to push down on the transmission tail end, which will rotate the engine up (watch for clearance issues in the engine bay). Wedge it if you have to work alone or get the wife to stand on it for a few minutes, like I did. The exhaust will fight you but it'll flex enough to make room.
That frees up a LOT of room to get your hand in there. I use a long 13mm box end wrench to break them loose, then a 1/4" ratchet to run them out. I do it all from underneath, but that guy ^^^ in WV has done "a few", lol.
When I did mine I got them from the top with a ratcheting wrench, had to use non ratcheting to break (am afraid to break the ratcheting ones with to much force). It took some odd angles and stuff but did alone pretty quick.
