hey guys i have a 1992 ranger with a 2.3 and a 5 speed. anytime i go to start the truck cold or hot it never starts on the first crank. you can turn it over for 5 mins and nothin, but asoon as you stop cranking and hit the key again it fires right up. anybody know why it does this?

try priming it before you crank it. turn it to the on position for about 3 seconds, then off for 3 then crank it. see if it starts. Usually if this works for you it means the valve in the fuel pump that prevents backflow is done for, and it's time for a new pump. could be as simple as a clogged fuel filter though.

ya thats what i figured too, but i have done all of the basics fuel filter,plugs,wires,etc... i should have mentioned that in the first post. priming it makes no difference still doesnt want to start on the first attempt
