I have an 85 ranger with the 2.8l V6. The carb on it is electric choke. The problem I'm having is it's idling is all over the place and it will die when you depress the clutch coming to a stop.

While this could be caused by several things... or a combination of things... I would first ensure the the throttle shaft isn't loose in the carb body. If it's loose it is probably leaking and will make it idle poor and erratically. I would also take the choke right out of the picture and back it off so it is not functional. Figure out the poor idle and fix it... then dial the choke back in.

But... I should have asked... is this when the engine is cold or after it's warmed up? What I said above would be my approach if it was on an engine at operating temps.

If it runs/drives good when off idle... Check the throttle shaft first. Then start looking for vacuum leaks.
