im trying to figure out if i need new control arms or not, i have a 2000 4x4 that has greasable balljoints in it now, can i just change the balljoints or do i have to replace the entire upper control arm?

Yep, the upper ball joints are part of the arm on your truck. You need new arms.

The new arm should have a replaceable ball joint so if it goes out again a new ball joints is $10-15.

my 2000 did not have greaseable upper ball joints from the factory. yours have probably been replaced once so look for a snap ring. with ring the joint comes out, without ring the joint is probably part of the arm.

if you replace the entire arm, pay attention to those square plates. the holes are offset and rotating them changes the alignment.
