Automatic
I have a 1990 ford ranger ext cab short bed with 2.9 a4ld stock height 31x10.5x15. My stock transmission went out so I put one in I had from a 1986 Bronco 2 that also had a 2.9. But my issue is with the neutral safety switch. I believe it is shot. But can't get it out, the housing on it is rounding off. Not very much room to get tools up there either. Now to my question any way to bypass the switch so that I can drive the truck. My wife need her car back lol. Also its the five pin nss. Transfer case is electric shift too. Dont know if 1350 or 1354.

Yes, you can by-pass the NSS so starter motor will work but NSS also controls Reverse Lights.

There should be a pink wire on the NSS, this comes from the ignition switch, it will have 12volts when key is turned to START

Then there will be a Red/light blue stripe wire on the NSS, this wire goes to Starter Relay, when it has 12volts starter motor will activate.

So splice the Pink wire and Red/LB wire together, then key will activate starter relay/motor

Have battery unhooked when working on this

Reverse lights
There will be a Purple/orange stripe wire on NSS, it comes from ignition switch also, it has 12volts when key is ON, this is the power for the Reverse/Backup lights

There will be a Black/pink stripe wire on NSS, that goes to Reverse light bulbs.
You can add a switch in the cab to activate Reverse Lights

Thanks RonD for response. With the nss bypassed then it should allow transmission to shift correct? What about the red/white wire?

Red/white goes to Computer it is Grounded in Park or Neutral, when ungrounded computer will bump up idle a bit for "In Gear" idle.
So if left disconnected idle my be a bit higher, 50-75 RPM.

For the 2 or 3 wire A4LD shift control only the VSS(speed sensor) and RPM/engine load is used, to lock torque converter or to do OD, 3-4 shift.
So no it won't effect shifting

Thanks again RonD. I know I've got a separate control wiring for the tcc and the 3-4 was hydraulic controlled in 1986.
