i have a 94 ranger xlt extended cab 4.0 liter and i have to pull the trans to replace the slave cylinder and im just wondering can this trans be removed without removing the y pipe for the exaughst?
the weight isnt a problem....i just really dont feel like messing with the bolts for the exaughst for they are rusted and really dont feel like getting new ones if they break...thanks for the info though at least i know there is a way to get it out without removing the y pipe
I would take out the y pipe no matter what. I'd replace it while you still can and maybe replace a new cat. It's so much harder to take out the tranny without messing with the exhaust. I took mine out and made the process quite easier and less cuss words lol.
The previous owner had the Y pipe out before. All the studs had been replaced with grade 8 bolts. I drilled the holes out a bit and used GM brass nuts. About the only 4 bolts that werent air wrenched by that bozo. The Y is hacked. There was a pipe welded in where the cat went. I cut most of that and, I grafted on a good used cat from last Grand Wag. I didn't have the set up to drop the transmission with the Y pipe in. I wasn't under the gun to get it running for daily driving. I took my time and fixed stuff as I found it. . The good news is that with the transmission out it is easier to drill out the studs you will prolly shear
