I'm new here and not sure where to post this, so move it if you like.

I'm 16 years old, and my dad let me have his Ford Ranger 2003 truck to drive around. I was driving my sister to work, when I hit a huge pot hole. I pulled out of the parking lot and tried to accelerate to keep up with traffic, but the truck wouldn't go as fast as it usually does. It takes a while for it to reach 40 mph. It's not jerky, so I don't think its the sparks plugs... But if I floor it, it doesn't change the speed at all than it would if I gently push down on it. Brakes are the same. What could be the problem??:icon_confused:

there is fuel pump shut off that will turn off your fuel pump in a accident what the car thinks is an accident "pot hole". Look in your owners manuel and it will tell you how to reset it. Its usually up near the dash and floor meet, under the carpet.

i dont think the inertia switch is the problem with that its either on or off, not slow

bad tank a gas maybe? run some sea foam through the motor, that stuff works really well, cleans off the injectors good. Your gas milage will be a little worse at first.

What tire(s) did you hit the pot hole with?

Did it feel like you bottomed it out?

tough call
Just a guess, but it may be possible that a rock or something may have gotten wedged in the brakes. Or possibly lodged the brake pad against the rotor. Does the car pull left or right now? Or possibly the alignment got so screwed up that it is hindering acceleration. Again, this would probably cause an alignment pull.

If it's a 4-banger you could have caused the timing belt to jump a few teeth when you jarred it that hard. Not likely, but the cam timing being a few teeth off would cause the problems you described. I've had mine jump about 20 degrees when I stalled it hard.

Check the exhaust system. If it bottomed out you may have crushed the converter or tailpipe flat.

It may have caused the inside of the catalytic convertor to come apart and plug up the convertor. If it runs and gets hot the convertor can actually start glowing red. With the exhaust plugged up the truck wont go.

Just another suggestion.

+1

I had this happen with my truck. The cat clogged and it would hardly go past 2700 RPM and took forever to get up to speed. A good hammer fixed it to get it to the shop
