I just parked my truck, walked down to the mailbox came up(about 3 min or so) and checked oil and I had white foam on the bottom half of the dipstick! Double checked it, kept getting milky stuff.

but I waited another 5 min and check it and the foam was gone!

I am running a '87 with Mobil 1 5w30 synthetic, it's got probably 1,000 mile on the oil.

The thing is, if it was oil, wouldn't it all be mixed up? separates that quickly?:icon_confused:

The coolant system does loose antifreeze(but it seems to be an external leak, it leaks on the top of the thermostat housing, needs a new housing or machined)

ah, sounds to me like your water leak might be internal also...not good man. what motor do you have?

2.0

This is my daily driver, seems to run ok, it does not run smooth because it has a cracked exhaust manifold(just got a replacement from the machine shop), I guess I need to drain the oil and see what is at the bottom of the pan?

will I have to remove the intake and exhaust to install a new head gasket? (will it affect the headbolt torque if I leave them bolted to the head?) and will I be able to tell WHERE at on the head gasket where it is not sealing?

Also could the stop leak be causing a over pressurization of thecooling system?

drain the oil out into an open pan and look at it if it has green shit floating in it then it def has coolant in it

yes and ah...huh? o..^^^do that before you spend the$$$ on the stuff neede for a headgasket change

Have you been doing a lot of really short trips, not really letting the engine warm up? It might just be condensation.

it is 60 degrees outside and it takes 20 minutes to drive home from work... it does take quite some time for my temp gauge to get into the "normal" and it is low on the "normal" scale.

going to get some glass jars and take some piss samples of the oil, oil floats on water so I should not have to drain the oil completely, just enough to fill jar and let the jar sit, the water should be noticeable after settling, does this sound good?:dunno:

I checked under the oil cap, the oil was dark, no foam or anything under the oil cap.....

The problem with your theory is that water does float on oil. So when the oil is drained the water/coolant is the last thing to drain.

okay, I'll check the oil in the morning when it's all settled, maybe I can tell?

Regardless of what any yahoo says. Oil floats on top of water. Like Duh???:icon_twisted: Have you ever seen an oil tanker spill?????

Let it sit over night and just crack the drain plug and thread it out a couple turns till it starts to leak past the threads. If you have coolant in it, it will be the first thing to leak out. If nothing comes out but oil its clean, but if antifreeze comes out you got major problems. If you don't trust anyone on this go ahead and waste that mobil 1.

I wish you luck.

Water is about 8 lb/gal
Oil is around 6-7 lb/gal

Wow did I have my head up my ass. This hangover sucks.

Hang in there. Friday will be here soon enough!
All I need to do is make it to Thursday. Thursday is my Friday this week.

Sometimes..............YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nothing a nap won't cure.

If I knew I'd be this thirsty today I would have drunk more last night.
