im lookin at an auburn LS diff on ebay. its fit a 8.8 28 spline so it sure work fine with my 02 4x4. my question is i was looking at some new ones and they have one that excepts an exciter ring for the abs and one that doesnt im not sure which the one on ebay is. does my 02 ranger need an exciter ring for abs on the rear axle i wouldnt think but i want to make sure. oh and i do have drum brakes in the rear.

Yep, you have the tone ring in yours.

Is there a part # listed you can look it up on Auburn's site? If not, then you'll probably have to email the seller.

i emailed him to get a part number cause i was looking at the auburn site and there is 2 models one with and one w/o the ring. thanks for the info

Judging by your rig description, this rig is used for wheeling correct? I'd recommend the Powertrax No-Slip locker... No complicated setup, probably cheaper than an LS and will actually perform worth a damn off-road. Just my 2 cents...

it does alot more driving on the road than off. plus the LS im looking at is 75$ shipped off ebay.

If you insist... I just don't want you to do all that work of putting in an LS and be disappointed off-road.
Here's a video comparing my locked B2 to my friends LS rear explorer.

I just put a Detroit Truetrac in my Raanger and I have power to both wheels unless one is in the air. Was your friend using a factory LS?

My Ranger was open before and now I can go places in 2wd that took 4wd with the old open differentials.

Factory LS, but the amount of flex caused by the hole was taking a lot of weight off of one tire, if you watch close you can see me lift a front tire on my rigs first climb.

well i put over 15,000 miles on my ranger a year maybe take it off roading were i would need a locker once a month most of the time im fine but im tired of the one wheel peel lol so i think the LS will do enough for me

I put that much on my rig a year. If you can handle LTBs on the street I dont see why a locker is a big deal :icon_confused: I had an LS in my rig when I first put in my 4.10 7.5, I thought it would do wonders over an open diff. Took it off-road and it was no better other than a flat loose surface.

hmm well i guess i have some thinking to do. i cant really afford a lock-rite a this point in time cause i need to get a set of 33's first and that 700$ give or take, and i have a wedding to pay for $$$$ so the locker isnt going to happen quick. the LS sounded good cause it was cheap

The No-slip is actually a smoother version of the lock-right, from what I've heard, most guys that have them barely notice them. My lock-right isn't bad on the street, you quickly learn how it drives and you adjust naturally and I don't even think about it much any more. It doesn't make any noise unless the windows are down and I'm doing a very slow sharp turn in a parking lot, then you can hear a faint clicking. With a locker and your current 31s, you could easily do better than open diffs and 33s. Just sharing my experiences, I feel my lock-right has been the best investment in my rig so far, in fact I'll have an Aussie locker (just like a lock-right) going in the D35 for the front before I ever put the D35 in.
