I have a 1997 Ranger 2wd 5 speed manual 2.3liter
Recently while driving in a very hilly area I had an extreme loss of power on the largest hills - downshifting from 5th to 4th and even to 3rd. I thought that might not be abnormal for an older vehicle.
But when downshifting (going uphill) from 5th to 4th gear, when I would engange the throttle, the engine would rev with no corresponding power to the drive wheels.
The loss of power has continued after returning to my relatively 'flat' home in that accelerating on an uphill on ramp, or on the highway, takes a long time in the higher gears, and I fear if I give too much throttle the engine will rev with no power to the wheels again.
I have assumed this was the clutch, but I'd like some other opinions if this is right, or if these could be signs of other things as well.
I've been slowly trying to learn more about my vehicle and any help would be appreciated.
