Hi guys, could use a little help w/ ID'ing some things. I bought an '87 F250 4x4(not quite sure why - it was there). This truck was never registered for the road as it was equipped and sold as "farm machinery" .
Pretty HD looking driveline, I'm trying to figure out what everything is so I can figure out what to do with it
So far I've identified the rear diff 10.25 Ford 3:55 open and the C6 trans

The VIN shows the motor as a 5.8 (351) It's a 4V carb I'm suspecting Windsor but.... - the dipstick goes into the pan. the fuel pump bolts are horizontal, the therm. housing is on the front of the intake and 90's to go straight up, and the # on the left exhaust manifold is E5TE9481 BA. Can anybody do anything with that ?

Next thing is the transfer case (the tag is broken off). It's aluminum, don't see a spot for PTO, it's manual shift - has 2H, 4H, N, 4L. Flange for the front D/S and slip in for the rear one.Anybody know any other identifiers ?

And the front diff, It's TTB on leafs. I looked all around the area near the pinion but found nothing (I read somewhere that there should be a 45 or 50 stamped there) and I can't find #s on the tubes. So out to the hubs - the chrome caps for the manual lock are about 3 3/8 " but the hub itself - measured right where the wheel bolts on, is about 4 1/8" - hard to measure. The u-joints are about 3" across, again hard to measure exactly. I think it should be a Dana 44 or 50 - I'm leaning toward 50, but not sure.

Appreciate hearing some opinions on this so I can figure out just what I've got here.

I have never heard of a truck being never titled and considered "farm machinery" The whole point of a pickup is to drive on the road... unless somebody just used it for a beater and quit paying tags and insurance on it.

Transfer case sounds like maybe an NP208, there should be a round tag on the back side that identifies it as such. I recently picked one up for my Ranger build, there are pics of it in my build thread. It is out of a Bronco so it has a fixed yoke rear output though (all truck ones had a slip yoke)

I didn't think they ran carbs that late... it could be a pieced together thing. 351M's had the t-stat on the block and ceased production for trucks in '82.

D50's have big hub assemblies like a D60, sounds like a 50.

This was custom ordered from Ford as a cab & Chassis by a farm machinery company that equipped it with a sprayer, so no it's never been on the road - just up and down the rows. It's never even been registered with the Department of Transport. It's a bit of an ugly old Monster but it seems to go through just about anything. I just kinda want to figure out the whole driveline so I can decide what to do with this thing. Might just make an awesome bush buggy. My kids have already got their eyes on it.

If its original, the engines a Windsor. They stopped using the 351M in the early 80s.

The T-case can be a np208 or a 13-56... post a pic.

IIRC, if its a leaf spring TTB, its a D50, not D44.

A pic of this thing would be great, I still can't figure out why they would special order a new pickup that wasn't street legal to do what a sprayer or tractor would do better...

My son emailed pictures from his phone. I can email them but I can't load them here - not real tech savvy. Yeah it was a wierd thing to do with a truck.... but here was a pickup with a pretty heavy duty driveline and nothing but a bit of surface rust.... so I bought it.
Not sure yet if that was a good thing....From what I can find it's looking like a 351 Windsor, they came out with fuel injection on those in 87 but still produced some carbureted versions and i'm thinking that with it being a 4V and considering the rest of the driveline and the special order and the application....maybe an HO ? What do you think ? Any way to check that without a teardown ?

that gearing seems pretty high for a chassis cab, at least the ones i've seen on craigslist are 4.10 and lower.

Well I think we've got it all nailed down here (after hours of research and dragging a couple of old school mechanics around for a look). Thought I'd post the results in case anybody was following along and curious. 351 Windsor 4V HO, Small Block bolt pattern C6 Trans, Borg Warner 1345 T-case,Ford (Van Dyke) 10.25 3:55 Open rear Diff, Dana 50 TTB front Diff, Manual Lockers, on 33/12.50 16.5 rubber and 8 bolt White Spoke Wheels.
Digs her way though a hole real good !
Thanks for your input. Appreciate it.

Manual lockers or manual lockout hubs?

Big difference there...

Manual locking hubs - all just the factory stuff. Still don't know what I'll do with it, but my kid's trying to figure out how to fit it under his ranger
