I can not get the freeze plug in on the drivers side of the block first plug in any
ideas would be great stearing in the way to bang it in

Rubber expansion plugs will work fine, and much easier to install in tight places.

Just for the record the "freeze plug" name is a bit of a goof that has been repeated over the years.
The holes are there to remove the sand after the block is cast, so nothing to do with "freezing", and they will NOT save the block in case it does freeze, they would get pushed out from freezing, lol, but block would be cracked in another place.
Proper name if interested is coring hole or casting hole plug.

But "freeze plug" is fine since everyone knows what you are talking about.

Main point for relating this is that the rubber plugs are fine to use, you are not endangering the engine in case it freezes :) , but they are more expensive, but not that much more compared to the time of disassembling alot of brackets to install the cheaper ones.

Install an engine heater in that hole.

K-D Tools used to make a driver with a ball socket on the end, with end caps for different sizes it worked great for the hard ones to get to
