Ok so i have a 1992 Ford Ranger with a 3.0 liter V6 motor that i just bought about a week ago. It ran great at first but lately it has trouble starting like it isn't getting fuel and sometimes just dies going down the road at any speed just out of the blue like it ran out of gas when i know for a fact it does have a half of a tank. I have checked and it is getting fuel and it is getting spark after I changged out the ignition modulator. The weird thing is sometimes it starts right up but other times you have to crank on it and press the gas a little like a carburated truck for a while to get it to start. I need someone to help me fast because parts for it are expensive and I am sure not rich and I'm tired of buying the wrong parts. The spark plugs need replaced but I do not think that is my problem. One thing that the parts store told me that it could be the hose that runs to my air filter due to the fact that it is taped in one place. I have taped over it and on each side but I'm still not sure that I won't need to tape it better or buy a new one. It has a sensor plugged into it on the air filter box and I'm thinking it may be shutting off my fuel because of the vaccume leak that it would be having it it is leaking. I'm not sure if this is correct or not. Any sudgestions as to my problem would be GREATLY appreciated.

Here is a list of the parts that I have put on it:
Distributer
Fuel Pump and filter screen on pump
Ignition Modulator

Thank You,

If it acts like it is out of fuel at one speed but it will go slower and not act badly then we look at fuel filters.. then fuel pumps and also the fuel pressure regulator.

I suspect a dirty fuel filter as well. But, when it dies or wont start, have you checked to see if it's actually a fuel issue? Maybe it's not getting spark?

I wouldn't listen to the auto parts guys too keenly....they are not ususally the brightest ones out there. A hole in your intake hose wont cause this issue.

When it dies or wont start, check to see if its a fuel or spark issue. Real easy way to to tell is to spray some starting fluid in the intake. If it fires and runs for a second then dies, then you know it's not getting fuel. If it wont fire with starting fluid, then you know it's not getting spark.

I would scope the fuel pressure reg. and associated vacume lines real quick.
