Since getting my 02 Ford Explorer 4.0L, I've been wanting to replace the OE muffler with a high performance muffler but on youtube the Flowmaster 50 series sound to ricey with a 4.0L when revving. Beside the Flowmaster 50 series, I found Heartthrob muffler for same price but can't find any clips on youtube for the sound. I'm only going to replace the muffler and don't want to get into a cat back system.
Does anyone have a preference between Flowmaster, Heartthrob, or Cherry Bomb on the 4.0L?

Thanks in advance for the suggestions. :icon_cheers:

i put on the 40 series flowmaster on my 01 ranger 4.0 and it sounds really good

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like I'll be going with the Flowmaster 40 series. I guess the audio quality on youtube made it sound worse that what it was.

I appreciate the comments.

def. 40 series, deep growl and not ricey, most people on youtube take their videos with digital cameras, that dont have good audio...so they dont sound like they should lol. thats why everyone says "you have to be there to appreciate it"

Sorry to dig up the old post but I got my Flowmaster 44 series install yesterday and it does sound good. The tone will start to go away around 3K rpm but on the low end it has deep tone. Not very noticeable at idle but in the 1K - 3K rpm band range it sounds good. I put a chrome tip at end with resisnator so not sure if that helps. The guy who installed it said it will get a little better after the break in period.

Yea once its all broke in it'll sound even better, I'm guessing you just hooked the stock pipe that goes all the way to the end, because I've heard that mandrel bent piping sounds better than stock crimped tube, but yea cheaper to keep stock pipe
