So I was replacing the driver side half shaft on my car today, well trying to. I got everything apart except for I can pull the shaft out of the tranny. According to my m chilton manual, I'm supposed to be able to pry it out with a prybar. No dice. I bent my 3 foot 1 inch thick crowbar. and had a few choice words for it. Now i don't know what to do, short of having it towed to a shop :bawling:.

Its a 95' Mazda Proteje 1.5L same one in my sig. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated!!

I have had luck using a slide hammer, the one I have there is an end that kind of looks like a hook and you can get it on a ridge of the cv shaft, the slide hammer usually gets it off. If that doesn't work I have no idea.

use the pry bar to hold pressure on it and yank on the end, or rap on it with a mallet while youve got pressure on it. theres most likely a snap clip deal inside on the end of the shaft that clips it into place.

if all that dont work try using a prybar again but instead of steady pressure try quick slams on it thats how i get them out at work

Works for me!

They can be tough.....try this.
Push it back in, rotate about 1/3 and try again.
Sometimes that pesky clip just finds that one spot that requires you to shear it off to be able to remove the shaft so you gotta jiggle it some to get it to drop to a new spot.
My Escort was doing this until I was told of this trick.
On about the 3rd tap, twist, tug, tug, YANK..I launched myself and the axle across the yard.

I was using a stout ratcheting strap wrapped in the gap and a 16# sledge with about 2 ft of throw wrapped on the other end...way overkill once it was in the right position!
