I did the search feature and did not find everything I was looking for.I have a 1989 4x4 2,9 auto Xlt. I need the ground point locations or a diagram, I have to reset my radio each time I crank it up, sometimes it drags slow until it starts. Battery checked out ok. Any ideas? Thanks

Factory radio?

On most aftermarket decks, there is a ACC power and a Battery power...the symptoms you are having makes it look like the Battery and ACC are hooked up to only the ACC, so the radio only has power when the key is on, so it resets itslef everytime the key is turned off

Bat- big cable goes to framerail then on to the RH side of the block by the motor mount.

There is another ground from the head/block to the windshield wiper motor bolt.

There are chassis to frame ground straps visible from underneath, one on the PS bed to frame, don't recall one on the DS.

For systems, the grounds are on the fenders, under the hood. One by (behind) the reservoir set (DS) and another further back toward the hinge, just forward of the brake MC. The PS also has two, both very close to the solenoid, just forward of the fusebox.

There is another on the radiator support, to the DS of Rad.

I believe there are two more, maybe three, located under the cab kick panels.
I'm still taking this 90 apart, so I haven't "found" everything yet.

I have no idea where the radio ground is, but I'd guess either under the dash or kick panel. Did you look for a diagram in the Tech Library? Here's one example:

It's a factory radio.I have had this problem before and cleaned the Battery terminals and tighten the clamps and that stopped for a while. But that didn't work this time. Thanks

Your experiencing a complete power loss somewhere. I dont see how this has to do with the radio, I would look elsewhere. Like RangerJ said, look at your terminals. Also look at your wires, there may be corrosian in the wires themselves. I recently had a problem with my explorer that was simular, I ended up changing the wires themselves, when I opened the old ones the corrosian had gone half way down the wire inside the casing. If you do find corrosian in the ends of the wires you can cut and reconnect, or if you want you can use the baking soda/water method to eliminate the corossian.
A complete loss of power in your system will reset your radio, that being said, there is also the solenoid to check, if this is becoming defective it may not be sending enough power to your starter.

My money would be on wires, but for the ground on the stock radio, isn't there a braded strap connected via a bolt directly to the back of your radio? Separate from the harness? If not you could add one, just connect to any good metal surface ( get rid of any paint, etc ) and your should be ok. You can buy replacement straps from any auto store, walmart, etc.
