well im new to this site and im going to be getting a ranger and mostly it will be a 4.0 and used. what i want to kno is what should i change out first besides the oil i use castrol gtx syn in all my cars. and also how hard is it to mod these engines. and how about the auto tranny is it strong or not?? thanks guys

Well you're in the right place for help. What year is the truck you're looking at? The transmissions differ. As far as maintenance goes that would depend on how old it is also. If it's fairly new then an oil change and check of the rest of the fluids would be fine. If it's older or has been sitting for a long time then changing all of the fluids would be a good idea as well as a tune up. Also what kind of mods are you looking to do? Some can be incredibly simple and others not so much.

its two im looking at one is a 93 with 150,xxx and the other is a 96 with 1xx,xxx both 4.0
well the first performance mod will prolly be FI of some sort along with exhaust (i want to have a sleeper truck for awhile)

heh, sleeper truck. I would opt for the manual transmission for one thing. As to either of those two year, there is not much difference. Might find lower miles on the 96 which is usually a plus. Your not gonna me much of a sleeper, i mean common is a v6. Granted they run excellent but who you trying to race? Oh btw, don't replace anything IF its not broken. Good luck, take care.

the 96 is the only thing i could get my hands on i jus wanna be able to whip someones a** if they think they hot stuff and when i say sleeper i mean like if someone wants to race me at the strip i want them to say i just got beat by a freakin pick up truck!!

i dont even kno how to drive stick does anybody kno the weak part of the auto trannys
