I have a 1987 302 with E-7 heads that are stock. I would like to get a different set of rockers. Do these have pressed in or screw in studs from the factory?

Should i get 1.7 ratio? Roller or regular? Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Any brand that I should defiantly stay away from?

The E7s have pedestal mount rockers. Depending on what cam and spring combo you'r running will determin the ratio. A stock H/O cam with the Trick flow spring upgrade kit works well with 1.7s. JM2C:icon_thumby:

Stay away from Proforms there junk. The Cranes are the factory cobra replacements, they even have the ford part number on them.

I have the Cranes in a 1.6.
You will have to have the heads milled down and run guide plates for the push rods.

Is that what they mean by non self-aligning? Have to have guide plates?

I have a set of E7 heads for a 351w, already built up with new springs, screw in studs, guide plates. I might just go ahead and get rockers for these heads and put them on.

I have used three sets of the Scorpion roller rockers and they are top notch quality.
You can order them in either style (ped. mount or stud mount) and you order them in many diffrent colors to if you want. Crane are vacuum cast rockers and are dependable and the Scorpion rockers are 100% CNC billet aluminum and are dependable with a lifetime warranty for the same price.

I believe the alignment refers to contact at the valve.
The roller needs to hit in the center of the valve stem.

If you run the 351 heads you will need to get the step down bolts from ARP.
Around $60.
I run a set of 289 heads on the Ranger and 302 E7 worked heads on the 351W in my F-100.

Ok thanks. Its a stock cam as far as i know.
Now I have another question. Whats the difference between self-aligning and
not?

Here are the ones i was thinking about getting

These rockers will work fine with no other mods required. These are esentially the same rockers as the 93 Cobra 5.0's had from the factory(which were made for Ford by Crane). Just make sure and buy new pushrods (6.25" long) as roller cammed engines don't spin the pushrods and the rocker end of the pushrods end up with a somewhat "knife edge" after about 100K miles. Pedestal rockers need no studs nor guide plates to align them, the stamped steel channels under the rocker pedestals perform this function. Just bolt em down and torque to 25 ft/lbs when you install em. No other adjustments should be needed with your combo.

If the block dowels are in place, he shouldn't need the step washers or bolts with this combo. The step washers aren't a bad idea, but they're not needed.

I agree with baddad (dodges lightning bolt... ;) ).
I'm running those same rockers, the pedal aligns it, no machining necessary. And the part about the dowl pins keeping the heads in place if you're using heads originally used with larger 351 bolts..

Is there any reason you would say these are junk. Just wondering if there is anything i should be aware of since I just bought some 2 or 3 weeks ago. Mine are the 1.7 ratio and I think I am going to need taller valve covers for clearance. Has anyone else had this problem?

I am running the cobra(crane) stud mount style 1.6 ratio on my montego with no problems.
I am running the trickflow stud style on my mustang in a 1.7 and they are ok but noisy. I have other people that have run them say the same thing.
the cobra ones I have on the other car are quiet.
another funny thing about the cobra rockers are that they also have a ford part number but they are 1.6 and stud mount but the cobra rockers are 1.7 pedestal mount

I have heard that proform stuff is china made. Not sure if its true or not though.

I ordered those parts tonight, hopefully have them on Saturday if i don't work. That will add about .03 to .04 to the cam lift correct? Will it be enough to notice? Just curious.

I did remember to get the pushrods also. LOL

Now I will probably have to get different valve covers, with the way my luck runs.
