Hey, im looking to buy a ranger again, used to have a ghetto 91 ranger 2wd back in the day. anyway im researching for a project 4x4 ranger that i can build that will will be used for recreational offroading mud/water/bush/snow. any advice would be helpfull, so far what ive been looking at... 1990-92(like the body style) aparantly has the real dana35 if it has the 4.0l engine? and it would have the 8.8 up front. and looking for a manual transmission.the transfer case for 90 to 92 looks only like a BW1354 . any advice or input???

well this all depends on your mechanical skills and wallet.

you need to ask yourself a few questions...
What tire size are you planning/hoping to run?
After that decide a lift height and type (body lift or suspension), and factor in if you would cut the fenders to clear those tires.
If a jy is near buy scope it out for ranger/ bii parts ( i.e. Tcase ) they are relatively easy to swap in.

and comb the build threads for ideas from what other guys have done. like custom ttb lifts, including EB coils, swapping in a dana 44 ttb from a older f150, or go to a SAS and also read there right ups.

lots of guys have built there dana 35’s up and done all the work with those only to realize what they want is something differnt, thus spending alot more money and in the end swapping to a 44. i know i wish i would have slapped in a dana 44 instead of my dana 30, but i gotta live with it until i break it

and yes to answer your question (im not extremely knowledgeable on those years) but the 4x4 with a 4.0L models should all have the real dana 35 and a 8.8 out back. It is also rare but every once in a while there was manual Tcase in those, i could be wrong tho.

thanks, i appreciat the possibilities your throwing out there, how much are people usually dropping on a sas just curious, but i dont want to go too crazy, a 35 with a lsd would be sufficient if its worth putting the money into. (im assuming both diffs are open) but like you say il probably want more afterwards lol. hardest part here is finding one that isnt rusted out.
