I have a b4000 lifted 12" on 37x14x15's. The 4.0 is a good little motor I just want a little more power. I have not seen much besides pacesettrer headers, I'm not a fan of pacesetter but it seems that's all I can get for under 500. I was gonna see if any1 knows any tricks or good parts I can use to get some torque

What gearing do you have in the axles?

5.13 is what you should have with 37's.

Regearing is going to be the only way to get more 'oomph'. Aside from forced induction, of course

I'm pretty sure its got 4.56's they are pretty good for the truck, it has a ford 9" and a dayna 44 in the front. I can't find much on the forced induction. Do u know of a place?

So 5.13? What is that gonna do for me on the highway at 60-65?
has any one heard anything about the pacesetters available for the 4.0's?

Well every now and then I gotta gwt on the highway for a couple of miles, and this is my dd. I don't have far to drive to work so ill look into it. Thanks for ur help.
What bad stuff have u heard about the pace setters?

Pacesetter headers have a reputation for poor fitment and warping the flange resulting in exhaust leaks. I second a set of 5.13:1 ring and pinion sets. You'll be able to cruise at 60mph around 2200-2500rpm (which is perfect, since turning all that rubber alone is an added stress to the engine). If your truck is an automatic, get a manual.

If this can be done, look into finding a set of internals from an M5OD-R1 behind a 2.3L, 2.9L, or 3.0L truck as these have numerically higher gears in first, second, and third. Using the gearsets in these transmissions inside of a 4.0L based M5OD-R1 would give you a better start because of the lower first gear. I've never attemted this so I'm not entirely sure its possible.

It is a 5 speed, I'm trying to figure out what gears I have now, at 60 I'm doing about 1800 so I'm guessing they r 4.56. When its in 4low it does ok though, I can come right of the clutch without any hesitation.
Cool idea* I put a manuel throttle control on the side of my shift knob, it helps when I'm off road.. u can do it with a gear shifter from a bicycle or something similar*

ive never heard any reviews on them, but have been curious abut the chips james duff sells. they claim decent power gains.

Are the chips for obd ii only or do they also make modules for older trucks?

they make em for the 2.9 and 4.0 obd1

Just a note of consideration-Most EEC-IV ECUs do not respond to the J3 port (this is where you install most piggy-back chips). Basically, after Ford tested the computer (using the J3 port) they disabled it. This is why most jet chips fail to deliver on pre-1996 Rangers. If the Jamesduff chip uses the J3 port to intercept the information from the ECU, there's a good chance it won't work. A multi-position switch chip from SCT would be optimal as it also needs to be tuned by a professional on a dyno allowing more precise tuning... This will blow your $500 budget however, and on a stock or mostly stock engine it'll only be good for an honest 10-12 hp.
