Transmission is in, it works, just not really well. I have reverse, i have drive, everything. But when driving it wont shift out of first to second or third, there is a front pump or converter leak i discovered, but it mainly leaks the worst at idle in park. I know ill have to pull it again to do that the right way( or f it and put stop leak in and hope for the best) although first i have to address that i overfilled it so its possible its spitting out the fluid. All bands are adjusted correctly, 10 ft lbs and 2 turns back with the lock nut torqued. Just curious if anyone here thinks something else is going on, maybe the throttle cable is out of adjustment? It is an old truck, the throttle pedal is practically to the floor it’s so stretched. Im kind of leaning towards the overfill, but this is my first solo rebuild (was amazed it didnt blow up the few times i took it around the block) im not really in a hurry to get it on the road, its a project truck right now so if i have to tear it apart again im completely ok with it

Im sorry this is the wrong thread, ill move it to transmissions

Never heard of stop leak in a transmission, don't think I would advise that to my worst enemy.

If it is leaking at the front of the bell housing where it mounts to the engine, it likely is the seal where the torque converter slides through on the input shaft.

An overfill would come out of the vent line (assuming it is hooked back up if trans was removed) and drip out near the tail housing of the transmission.

What year is the A4LD, they were all vacuum and governor controlled minus the TCC lock controlled via solenoid, and an OD solenoid was added around '87.

Could be a governor issue from what you describe not shifting, also could be a shift modulator issue as well.

Its a 94

sounds like a few things....

classic pump misalignment.

something in the vacuum line/governor potentially.

or valvebody gaskets/torque improper or something stuck...

going forward could be catastrophic and tearing it down and re-specking per manual meticulously is likely the best thing to do.

did you have manual low and 2? could you go manual low to 2 and then d to catch 3rd?

or you only tried drive and it moves fore and reverse...
