Ok, so I'm finishing up my 8.8 install and the last thing I need to do is put the brakes on. The stock brake lines will not work because of the whole axle over deal. The spring pads are where the original brake lines were. I called my pals over at pep boys and they all seem to be retarded when I try to explain that I need to redo my brake system because of the swap.

My Question:
What should I do? How do I get my brakes working lol? I saved everything but the hard metal brake lines from the 7.5. So I have the flex rubber line coming from the frame and the splitter on the end.

Please and Thank You !!!

another one of those "this is what i would do" statments.. but i think what you shoudl do is go and buy a roll of brake line and some tube nuts and do it all yourself. you will have to buy a flaring tool if you dont already have one but im sure it will come in handy on future brake jobs. just my $.02

Oh of course I would be doing it myself lol. And when you say a roll of brake line do you mean flexible rubber brake line or the steel tube that I can bend into shape?

yah you can buy a roll of steel hard line that you can bend into shape. i think about $25 a roll for 20 feet or so. and the tube nuts are like $0.15/ea and the tool. i believed a payed about $45 ish. ive used it so much on many different projects. definatly worth buying. when i did my brakes i did them brand new from the master all the way to the disks. (i have 4 wheel disk). and cost mne about 200. tool incl.

its steel hard line but it will be in a roll to save space. i've never bought a whole ton but i think napa had 25' rolls. personally, i would just buy a couple lines with nuts already on them, already flared. if you just need to go from the center of the axle to the end, youre probably only looking at 4' or so for each line. just make sure you get the right size (3/16?) and bend it to make it fit. you can get a cheap bending tool for $5 or $10 or you can just carefully use your thumb

Sweet! Thank you guys sooo much! I used some creative thinking and I'm going to do pretty much what KUNAR said. I just walked in to pep boys and said "This is what I need, Show me." and they let me rummage through their storage and got it all lol! Thanks again!

i would do what Branger2B said if you off road alot you r bound to brake another line the you have the tools to fix it your self thats my 2cents:icon_welder:

i agree! i couldnt tell you how many times i have used my flare tool and gone back to my roll of brake line......comes in extremely handy....

if you have a lot of brake work to do, by all means the flaring tool is a good investment. im pretty sure you can get a kit to do single or double flares for about $30. a lot of kits will also do metric (bubble) flares too. but if you just want to get the truck together, there is no need for that investment. just buy the lines pre-flared.

Welp!! The 8.8 swap is finally done! As for the brakes, I bought some pre-cut and flared steel brakelines with the bolts on the ends. I just bent it to go along the top of the axle shaft to the discs. Over all, Im very impressed with the work i did and exceeded my own expectations lol. The one thing I am disappointed in, is the new leaf springs i put in to get rid of the 4 inches of lift blocks. They are a little too stiff for my liking, but I guess it is to be expected.
