My credo
Hey ya'll, watch this
Trying to finish my v8 bronco 2 conversion and hit a snag. Putting new rings in my 84 crown vic 5.0 and cant find any info on piston ring gap placement.Any help would be great

Starting with the pass side cyl's 1, 2, 3, 4.
Put the oil ring spacer gap at the 3 O'clock position right above the wrist pin.
Put one oil ring gap at the 10:30 position and the other gap at 7:30
Put the second compression ring gap at the 3 O'clock
Put the top ring gap at the 9 O'clock

Do the driver side the same just swapping your clock positions.
Oil ring spacer gap 9
One oil ring gap at 1:30 and the other at 4:30
Second compression ring gap at 9
The top compression ring gap 3

I have done it this way for many years and never had any issues.
You can do it many ways and there is even diagrams in shop books that will tell you to do it a certain way. You will probly get others telling you to do it a diffrent way which is fine as long as the ring gaps are not all lined up.

Check you instructions that came with your rings for the correct side up on the compression rings.

Ditto, do it anyway you like just as long as you stagger the gaps.

trying to score an aluminum mid 80s mustang intake to top it off. Already have an edelbrock 600 cfm carb and a set of mid 90s mustang shorty headers. Should be interesting!

Score ? I wouldn't call that one a "score" :D

But if you really want one, also look for an Edelbrock Performer or a 60's 289/302 4 bbl iron intake, they're all basically the same anyway. Or a Weiand Action Plus.

I might have a stock aluminum intake from a Mustang GT. I might switch mine out to the 289 HiPo intake I forgot I had bought years back. How long before you need the intake?

I just sold my mustang HO intake!!

I'd have taken trade for a carbed 5.0 intake too.

Why bother? You'll be swapping one crappy intake for another. The 302 Ho intake is just an aluminum copy of the old iron 289 4 bbl intake, which the 289 Hi-po's came with.

So an 85 GT intake is worthless. I bought one new in 85 and it hauled ass. I know its a different animal just sayin. I also have a 68 4 bbl intake 302

Worthless ? Naw, but close. $50 is all I'd pay for either one. The 68 4 bbl intake (C8ZE casting) is worth a little bit more to someone who's doing a concours resto on a 68 Mustang that came with the 4 bbl motor, but other than the casting numbers, it's the same intake as the 289 4 bbl intake. As for the 85 Stang "hauling ass" I'll leave that be, but will tell you it's about a full 2 seconds slower in the 1/4 mile than a completely stock 06 GT. :shok:

What would be a "good" intake then? As for the 85 GT hauling ass, for 85 it did ok.

I run an Edelbrock Performer 289 and it's been pretty good. I also port matched it to my heads.
