Natural Gas Ranger??

Isn't there too little energy in natural gas? Maybe propane?

I've thought about this at one time. I can get CNG locally nearby and for around $1.50 per gallon equallivent. But the up front cost of doing it right and the extra equipment that the Ranger will have to haul turned me away. Its about $1500+labor to have one installed and only a certified shop can do it. Certified my butt, like heck I'm letting any other mechanic besides me work on my Ranger.

That price probably doesnt include the tank. They run about $1200-1400 for a DOT approved tank.

CNG is becoming a big thing with vehicles. Lots of big chain gas stations are preparing to install CNG dispensers.

I'm looking into the same conversion. There are a lot of fleet vehicles running it now. I've seen f150s running CNG.

It's been done. It was a factory fleet option on Rangers and Taurus. They are expensive to run and maintain.

Why the sudden interest in all these exotic/alternative fuels?

I want a short range inexpensive vehicle for making trips into town and around my farm, probably will get no more than 30 miles a day or so.

Just get one on of those the 4 wheelers like I have to run around in on my property. I can run the Rhino forever on a tank of gas and still enjoy camping and fishing with it. Can't take it to the store legally of course here. Up in Mississippi and Alabama where we are out in the country I can drive in to the market places....nobody cares up there.

He said he wants to run it into town. Those aren't even close to street legal for PA.

The closest thing I can find are Tiger trucks, they are electric and gas powered trucks that get about 60mpg, are not highway rated, and can carry a large load

They are? Your oil pretty much never gets dirty, and the CNG systems are usually very reliable, plus CNG is still only $1.50 a gallon where I am.

'Cause natural gas is clean, cheap, and there is enough of it in the U.S. to run everything in the U.S. for 50-100 years.

And just in case y'all are wondering, between my dad and I, we have owned at least 8 natural gas cars over the years.:D

I considered buying an OEM equipped CNG F150, as there were 3 for sale when I was in the market. Two of them needed regulators, the other one had just been replaced. I went with the odds there and did not buy one. In fairness, they were all 3 over 100k miles. But these regulators were over a thousand dollars just for the part. To me, that is expensive to maintain.

Sent while I should be doing something else

whats the downsides and mp(g?) of a natural gas system?
