Anybody got shots of the roof of a 98-ish Ranger?? I want to know if it's worth the time to pull the 'liner to mount my Uniden PC68 CB in an over head position. Any support/re-enforcements that I can attach the mounting bracket to with bolts or self tapping screws??

I don't want to go blindly poking holes in the liner and denting the roof with a punch to find what's under the 'liner, like a friend did to his F350, and I see that lots of youse guys have pulled your liners to redo them, so I figger somebody here's got the 411 on the naked roof of a Ranger...

Thanks.

^^^^That is what happens when you F-up on an Expo OHC install....gotta cover up the huge hole anyway right??

I used 10-24 self tap screws..approx 1.5" long? I honestly know remember... and 1" nylon spacers to space the bracket off the roof. It sits very flush with the liner. My radio is a Cobra 29ltd BC(black chrome)...i've since swapped the case to the standard black plastic case. Radio is very loud and very clear in its current position. Can be a pain at times...under hard acceleration, the mic likes to hit the passenger. I think it's a game at times. lol. When I wheel, I put the mike on the cell phone holder just to the right of the steering column.

The roof is a two piece...and if you look above, you'll see an indention towards you. that hollow between the actual exterior and the piece of metal you are putting your self tappers into.

Hope I helped.

oh...why do you feel the need to actually drop the headliner??? Just cut a hole in it while it's still all mounted up like i did.

You can mount your CB up there like the previous poster did no problem. I have my programmable VHF Mounted in the same spot. I cut down a block of wood, painted it black and installed above the radio to level the radio out. Either way works fine though.

FX4, that's exactly what I was looking for, except for the big ol' hole part. That's why I wanna drop at least the front of the 'liner, so I can find where to put the screws thru the 'liner. But your set up looks good with the rig flush with the roof like that.

well...youve seen what you need....you see where i drove my holes. Get to work! lol.

Use the screws holding the sun visor clips in place. If/when I install a CB in my truck, I'm gonna run a strip of metal to those screws and mount the CB to that.
