Hi,

I'm a new member with an immediate question!

I'm a fairly decent part changer but at a loss. I just replaced the head gaskets on my 2000 XLT 4.0 L. The truck has under 40K miles but unfortunately I did not watch the temp gauage and ended up with a miklshake in the oil. I sent the heads out and everyting went back together nicely but when I fired it, the car is popping through the plenum. I did all the recomended easy stuff (like checking the firing order) but I am left with one mystry wire that for the life of me I ca't figure out where it goes!

I am probably crazy but I'm hoping (with low expectations!) that this could be an ingnition related wire but unlikely. LMK if anyone know where it goes. I'm thinking that my next step is to remove the calve covers and make sure that I didn't misalgn one of the push rods. but what a drag that is to do. Thre wire has a white connector and is runs up along the driver's side fuel rail bundled with the injector wires???????

I'd be very grateful for any guidence on where that wire goes as well as the misfiring.!!!

Can you pull the loom back over the wires a little bit and make out what color the wires are? The further you can pull it back the better, heat and age change the colors of the wires some. Look for any colored stripes on the wires also.

Not an ignition related wire for sure
There is just the 4 wires on the coil pack

Yes, how many wires in that loom and what colors?

Coil pack wiring looks like this
3 4
2 6
1 5
front

The 5 6 4 side gets miswired all the time, follow each wire to its cylinder on drivers side

Thanks all!.

Turns out the wire is to th oil preassure sender. I had a sinking feeling that I knew what the more troubling issue was, turns out I was correct... (I was just hoping it was something quick that would not require undressing everything that is in the way under that hood.) I did the heads alone (Hans Solo) with the motor in the truck, bent over standing on a step stool :). A contorsionist position I'm sure you guys know well!

The final step was to install the rocker shaft on the driver's side. Placing the 6 push rods into the lifter cups and then getting th tops into the rocker arm sockets and bringing down the three 15 mm bolts is a bit like being a plate spinner! A second set of hands mighthave helped!

When I removed everything and took off the valve cover sure enough the last pushrod closest to the firewall was not under the rocker arm! All back together now and running great. Thanks !
