Just about done changing the heads on the Ranger and I've got a wire and a vacuum hose that I can't figure out. The FSM is no help, and after a few hours of searching both that and the engine, I have no idea where either goes. Sometimes Google doesn't show photo's well. If that's the case, they're the only two in THIS ALBUM.

Here's the wire. It's dark blue, and by itself. At first, I thought it was a vacuum line.

Here's the vacuum hose. It's the one in my hand. Actually, I'm not entirely sure it belongs on this side of the engine either. One of the connections broke when I pulled it out (I hate hard plastic), so I pulled the whole thing to find a replacement and forgot where it came from.

Possibilities are....
for the vacuum lines ;
there should be 1 to the EGR...1 to the FPR...& 1 to the throttle body & evaporator cansister
also 1 to the MAP sensor.

the electrical wire...maybe the oil pressure sensor/sending unit, or a oil level sensor in the oil pan

There also be a vacuum line for the heater controls and air cleaner blend door. I'd bet it's either one of those.

No EGR.
TB is good.
I'll have to double check the FPR, evap canister, and MAP.

In one of those "duh" moments, I found what the wire is for: Temp sender.

Both of those are hooked up on the other side. Not sure that it matters, but I think the heater line should be hooked up on this side. The hard plastic looks like it's bent to go between the two intake halves.

Thanks guys.

that is the line that connects to the heater box on the other side of the engine. There is a small conjunction of thses small vac lines near the top of the heater box can't miss it. That same line just broke on my '89 ranger and I had to replace it with one I found at advance auto parts and I had to drill out the little rubber gromits a bit to accept the somewhat larger diameter of the new line.
