Ok the other day I accidentally kept my e-brake on by accident and drove for maybe 500ft.:annoyed: Now if seems like there is a shudder when or when I'm in first gear slowing to a stop, I'm not sure which. My engine seems fine, no wierd sounds or shakes so this leads me to believe I screwed up either a part of my transmission or drum brakes. I have a bit of a long highway trip coming up soon and I want to make sure it's highway worthy. Can anybody help me out?

I would pull the brake drums and make sure they aren't sticking first, thats probably what it is.

I don't think your trans. is bad, the brakes might be rubbing. If e brakes don't get used they will do funny things!

See that's what it feels like but I wasn't sure. I won't be able to get to the problem for a while, so hopefully that's what it is.

since you can't pull the drum off, at least drive a little slower so it doesn't get too hot, does it feel like something is holding the truck back?

nice diff cover btw.

It doesn't feel that way when driving or accelerating, just only when I'm slowing down it feels like it's maybe tugging or shuddering to a stop. It does feel like I'm shifting slightly harder so maybe the brakes are dragging enough to make the engine work harder to shift? Thankfully I'll be mostly doing in town driving for the next couple of weeks and I usually accelerate a bit slower than the average driver(I want my 3.sl0w to last me as long as possible). And yes, thanks. It's a replacement diff cover made by Purple Cranium Products. It's quite a bit thicker than a stock cover so it will hold up to more abuse, but not thick enough to have to buy new bolts. I think it was a good investment.

That might be why it is shifting harder. Im thinking thats what it is cause that tugging to a stop. well try to get it loose as soon as you can cause its probably going to affect ur mpg. Let us know whats going on when you take the drums off. later

I usually only drive 5 or 6 miles a day so I'm not too worried about mpg's right now. I'll let you guys know whats going on as soon as I can.

500 feet isn't enough to do any damage. The worst you've done is glaze the brake surface and that's why the shudder, if your brakes are not slightly on. At the least you should jack the wheels to see if they spin free or if the brake may be dragging. You can de-glaze by rubbing brake surface with emery cloth.

BTW, only driving 5-6 miles per day is very hard on an engine and exhaust system, especially in cold weather. I'd do more frequent oil changes to make sure your not accumulating too much water in the oil.

AZ is way too dry to get very much water, but I usually do oil changes about every 6k. And yes, the shudder went away today. I think I just glazed them over and it finally wore away. Glad I didn't screw up my brakes.
