I have a 84 ranger 2.8L with (I assume) a Toyo Koygo 5 speed. The shifter handle floats all around the place even when in gear. I read the tech section about the shifter bushings. Is there a similar fix for my 84? It is so sloppy that it actually gets lost in 5th....if you don't pull the shifter towards the driver as you shift up out of 5th it just floats around all over the place and won't come out of gear until you find the lucky spot.

No, you can't replace bushings on TK or Mitsu transmissions. You need a new stick. Good luck finding one in better shape....

Check the junkyards. I find them in good shape all the time around here.

Their is a fix for the shifter if not to worn out, You have to remove the shifter knob, grind the little tabs off of the shifter. Now find to washers that will fit over the shaft pretty snug and you'll need a short spring that will fit over also. The spring needs to be about an 1" long. Place 1 washer then the spring and then the other washer place in a vice and place tension on the spring to pull the ball assembly tight into the seat. Now the trick is to drill a hole to install a roll which this hold the shifter tight once again. I done this to the past two wheel drive rangers that I own and works quite well.

I hade the same problem with my fm 145. i went to the dealer and bought a new one for about 100.00. ask them to do a parts search of all the dealrs in the us. mine came from teaxes. hope you find one!!
