At first I thought i was stuck on my icy driveway then realized my driver side rear wheel is locked. The other wheel was spinning but the other is locked. What can i try?
I am not much for mechanics so at this point looks like I will be gettting it towed to my mechanics shop tomorrow.
A few days ago I went ice fishing and got stuck on the lake. I had tire chains on and that was the same tire that cut 1 foot into the ice. I guess the chains turned it into a chainsaw and it just cut into the ice. Luckily a big 4by4 towed me out of it. There was a big hole in the ice where the tire cut the ice like butter with the chains on. I am wondering if that had something to do with this current problem.
This is an 06 3.0 2wd sport.

Could be your brakes collapsed...or your rear end let go...if it's icy you might want to pass on trying anything...otherwise...jack up the locked side and remove the wheel and try to pull the drum off...if everything looks ok there you might want to jack up the other side and have both wheels off the ground...spin either wheel and watch what happens.

I've never had a rear end go on me but I've heard of it happening...especially after using them to make slushies...

What he said. If you drove through any puddles and the drum wet before you parked it it probably froze. Same with with the cabled. before I changed my E-Brake once in a while I would have to climb under my truck and wiggle them to break up the ice.

agreed. I had to unfreeze my brakes the other day after going through the carwash ($20 wasted, as the truck looks like shit now 4 days later)...

could be moisture that froze, try putting a heater infront of it for a while. i wouldnt force it though..

I bet it's either just frozen from ice or rust. A good shock load can pop it loose like dropping the clutch, or, just dragging it across dry pavement. Worst case scenario your tire will skid, unless you do it for a stupid long time it won't damage anything, and only your tires at that. Rangers are light in the back end anyways.

Your brakes are made for bringing an entire vehicle and then some to a stop, locking the tires if necessary, they're pretty robust.

Just the other day my Ranger was stuck in place too. The darn thing was frozen to the ground! It had me confused for a minute because I KNEW I had released the e-brake haha

Yeah, happened to me last week. Rear tyres were stuck on a patch of ice. I used my subie to pull it out-

People in freezing weather in rain/snow country that use their e-brake is not a good idea.
not insinuating the op did, just saying.

yep it was frozen alright. I put a heater on drum, within 15-20 minutes it was spinning fine. yeah I will try avoiding using the e-brake if I can here in winterpeg.

My 90' F150 that I use for hauling firewood every yr. has a similar problem. When the rear drums get moisture in them they can freeze up, mine on the other hand rust up and won't turn even in 4 low with a mini spool in the rear! I always carry a large hammer in the truck and beat the inside of the wheel on the drums to free them. Quite often I have to really beat the snot out of them hard! Just watch where your hammer is hitting. I've been told that the rear brake shoes will swell up when moist. When it was my daily driver and it had rained, touch the brakes and they would send U through the windshield!
