i have had no good luck with this truck. it is a 97 4x4 4.0 ranger. i have had codes of lean bank 1 and 2 sence i've owned it and now when im slowing down i have the rpms wave up and down from 500 to about 900. also happen when idling. i have been having a hard time starting lately, have to crank it a little longer to start up. it only has 109k on it. is it time for a fuel pump? fuel psi regulator? i have changed the egr, iac, fuel filter, both o2's along with a tone up. i'm not trying to fix problem by changing thos parts, the iac was sticking. cleaning didnt help. egr was rotted, broke it putting my headers on, and 100k was way past due on chaning the o2's. any ideas what to look at? cked the fuel psi a while back got 40 psi at idle and about 44 psi when i reved it up.

Good News, I know exactly where to start.

First off, the 02 sensors can go way past 100k. Ask MAKG, he has the original ones on one of his cars and its got 300k. I would test parts before you replace it. Looks like you have spent a lot of money in parts that didn't need to be fixed.

So the bank 1/2 lean codes means you have a vacuum leak. I had the same code on both my 97 and my roommates 97 4.0 rangers. I had to replace the lower intake gasket and it fixed both trucks. While I had it apart I did the valve cover gaskets and fuel rail gaskets. For the Fuel rail, I suggest leaving it together, its kinda a pain in the ass to get it together without pinching the o-rings. Its not a difficult process, but just time consuming. You can have your truck diagnosed for sure for the cost of a sensor or two that you have replaced. Or you can spray some carb cleaner around all manifold areas while running. If it starts idleing different you have found your leak.

I had the same symptoms with my truck as did my roommate. fuel PSI looks normal. Get that manifold checked out. There are tons of people that have had the same issue as you. do a search for the P0??? codes and you will find enough reading to keep you busy.

BTW i love your signature!

i had forgot to say that when i drive down the highway about 70 to 75 the motor bucks. the rpms are about 2300 to 2500. this was gotten worse over time. i'm starting to think i need a fuel pump.

well i now can add this the list of problems. seems im loosing spark now. the motor is not seem to be running on all 6. so i toke a timing light and hooked it to one plug wire at a time to see if it has consistant spark. found miss fires on 4 and 5 cyl. all the others are fine. so it seemed like a coil problem. so i changed it with a new coil. no help. even at idle i can hear a slight poping in the tail pipe. rpms held at 2000 its even more apernt of the poping. aka louder. had codes pulled today. lean 1 and 2 bank and somthing about emiss. control showed up. and yes i have a gasket set on order to change the intake upper and lower, so i can stop getting asked about it.i am about to dump this pos for somthing more repilable. so any one have any help for me and not ideas???

kinda sounds like what just happened to me. Check your air idler. When was the last time u had a tune up.

well changed out the lower , upper intake gasket, fuel rail gasket and injector seals also. it fixed nothing. its just as bad as it was befor. im done with it. i can give a sh*t less. im selling the truck and i dont even care what i get out of it. the shifter cable broke today also, leaving me stranded in 1st gear. i went and bought a escape today.
