pick me up a new motor for $250,

a 1965 289 2v with the 6-bolt bell housing to mate to my AOD

pulled the valve covers off and oil pan off, clean, no sludge no nothing

pulled the rear man off, minimal wear on the bearings

looks like this motor was just gone threw, just got to get a carb, 280z harmonic balancer, and flexplate and ill be ready to go
 
been busy with work so not much progress, got all my part, gotta put the puzzle pieces together
to get:
motorcraft 2150 carb 2bbl
duraspark distributor
waterpump
shorten driveshaft
fluids
to:
assemble(will be using the f150 aseccories from the 91 302 i had)
drop tank fix sending unit/remove high pressure pump replace with tube
here how she sits

on this schedule im on, i can only work on it 1 day a week so progress is slow and lately my job been getting in the way or thanksgiving, so goal is to get her running after new years, and after tax return start collecting for other parts(hoping i go back to my old schedule)

as for the motor it the 67 289 and the stock manifolds fit perfect
guess my ? which manifolds flow better 99 exploder or the 67 manifolds??
 
Remove and inspect the #1 main bearing, it's got the most load on it, more than the rear main does. As far as a carb, a Holley 2 bbl will replace the Autolite carb. Manifolds? look for a set of early 70's 351W's. They flow better than the two you listed.
 
i already got it in there, the rear main had minimal wear, so i would expect the rest to look the same and ill be replacing all the gaskets on the top-end, and running the 2150 because i heard it was decent off-road and can be had for pretty cheap from the pick-n-pull with a rebuild kit, future plans are a 4bbl carb/intake. goal is to just get it running

personally this motor looks a hell of a lot better than the 302 with 198,000 miles(construction f150 truck)and 2 inches of sludge i removed that i put in there before, and the story is the motor was basically just rebuilt and the 67 mustang was given to a kid for a gift and he ended up rolling it
 
Keep us posted, I have a '67 289 to go into my Ranger too. I am going with a C-4/5 mutant and am strongly considering TBI.

Mine had a crappy overhaul, some of the crank journals are scored as well as #4 piston. But it has never seen a machine shop though, stock crank and stock bores.
