Well my Ranger's clutch is FINALLY fixed, to the tune of $900 :bawling:, but I got a few surprizes from the mechanic.

Sadly, the factory clutch has not been in there for 170k as orgionally thought. Turns out one of the other owners had replaced it around 100k and from what the mechanic told me, did a crappy job. He has suurpized that it lasted this long.

On the upside, I have a half-used clutch disc and pressure plate if anyone needs one.

The clutch did get replaced with a nice Luk unit.

I'm happy. My truck is fixed, and is there anything better than getting your truck back, aside from a th day you bought it.

Congrats...amazing what throwing $900 at a truck will reveal....:icon_thumby:

wow 900$

that price is out of control a little over a hundred for the kit and about 2 hours with no help, some basic tools and u can do it your self

4x4 on the ground in new england vs paying $900 to someone,

it seems a bit high but without seeing the invoice and what was actually done I would pay the $900 this time of year in New Hampshire

That $900 included replacing the clutch master, slave cylender and clutch. Besides, it's a New England truck so it was hard fought to get it apart.

He also tossed in an oil change. Most other places wanted $1,000 + to do the job.

Besides, I have none of the knowledge, tools, or expertice to do it myself.

I paid $900 8 years ago for a clutch job. $900 now sounds pretty good.

Also, 83, I want to see you do a clutch job and do it right in 2 hours. Pics or it didn't happen man. It takes me 4 just to get the trans out working on the ground.

i did a clutch job on 2 different 2wd rangers in my driveway, basic handtools and no floorjack, i eased the tranny on to my chest and rolled it onto the ground then did the opposite to put it back up.

hell, i would have charged ya a case of beer then drank it with ya!

ill admit it was a pain but it wasn't that hard the hardest part was getting the tranny in and out she is a heavy bi%ch drive-line takes five mins, t-case ten, tranny out in 20 mins, clutch off new on 25 mins, tranny back in 35 mins, its so much easier if u jack the front of the engine up about 4 inches that way u don't have to disassemble the exhaust, t-case back on ten mins, drive-line install five mins plus :icon_cheers: ten mins equals 2 hours:thefinger:. now granted it didn't go that easy the first time, only had money for jy clutch needed truck running, After i got new clutch kit it i used the trick about jacking the front of the engine and got er done, On a side note i can do it on my 84 mazda 2wd in less than 45 mins i have held babies that weighed more than that trans, ive done that clutch twice im not really nice to that truck.

One thing that amuses me, is anybody in the service industry (carpenter, mechanic, plumber, body guy... whatever) is that the last guy always didn't have a clue what he was doing.

I bet the next time you have the clutch changed the guy will say the same thing. :icon_thumby:

A little over $100 for the complete Luk clutch kit.....pants on fire!
2 hours to do the job by yourself......pants on fire!

it was the standard clutch kit from oreillys auto parts 119 dollars found receipt in box of receipts install cant be any harder or time consuming than a luk clutch, and i dont see how it can take any longer with the right amount of extensions to easily reach the bolts on the tranny, and a get er done attitude i did it i dont know why the rest of u have issues:icon_confused: maybe im just more gooder at it:headbang::thefinger: no offense to anyone but what can i say i did it and i havent lied about anything stupid in the last 10 years now the important stuff ill lie about but no reason to do it here to try and impress a bunch of people i dont know, all i was sayin is what ive done.

How many SALTY winters had those trucks seen? I dread the day I have to replace the u-joints in my 4x4. It took a good 5 hours to change a shackle and hanger, and it wasn't the first time I had done it on a ranger. My truck spent 14 of its 16 years in minnesota. Everything above the frame is in decent shape, below that is another story.
