I agree, thats pretty sick!

I would most definitely get an intercooler for that thing! (Aftercooler to be technically correct)

hell ya. I would love a turbo diesel ranger. Throw some fuel system mods, injectors, intercooler and turbo on that thing and have a blast!!!

I haven't drove it yet, needs insurance and license. Mileage is EPA rated at 30 hiway mpgs, I can squeeze 21 from my SOHC 4.0, so I'm sure I'll get better. A tractor dealership in town owned it since 1986 (hence the red stripe). I've always liked it, then they sold it a year a go to a farmer who let his kids drive it around the farm (hence it's beat-uped-ness). He put a $1200 tranny and clutch in it and sold it to another kid who sold it to a kid I went to highschool with. He called and said "You want a Diesel Ranger...I told him sold and got it for $500. If I find an intercooler in the junkyard I'll pick it up, for now I'm gonna commute with it, see what kinda mileage it gets.

Aftercooler is technically correct?

Anyway, no, it will harm his performance. It doesn't make enough boost to heat the air up enough, to spread the O2 molecules around enough, to reduce performance. About 10psi is the limit--past that it would help.

Even so, intercoolers cause issues. They are not used on some construction equipment because they sponge up engine response. It adds a lot of area to spit compressed air into before it begins to enter the combustion chamber. An intercooler won't do that motor a damn bit of good. A gasoline motor is a different story. It would still suck up throttle response if used on a low-boost application, but detonation is a factor and an intercooler can help with that.

Leave it alone and enjoy the mileage. That's no doubt why you bought it. It is a little industrial motor adapted for a little truck--it's not a medium-duty engine meant to be thrashed with a lot of fuel and boost.

I'm betting it gets over 10psi. I'm going to put a boost gauge on it, just to see what it does.
