Hi people, I need some help. I am new to the truck world, and I recently purchased a 5spd 2000 Ford Ranger XLT. The shocks were blown, so I bought some to replace the worn ones. When I went to replace the front shocks, I found out that they were different than the ones I purchased. Does Ford make different shocks for the same year, make, and model truck? The ones I bought look like this

and the ones that I removed look like this:

Am I missing something here? The part number for the new ones are for my make and model ford ranger, yet they are both completely different lengths compressed and not compressed. I searched around this nice site before I posted, but I couldn't find any info on this matter. If someone would shed some light on this problem, I would really appreciate it. Thanks

The ones you got sure like the ones for a 4x4 of that year....

The ones you should have are partnumber 59312 for Monroe GasMatic's

Thank you Sasquatch. Advanced auto does not give you the option to select 4x4 or 2 wd. They had all the shocks listed and I didn't scroll down far enough to see the other. Thanks for the info.

im pretty tight with the guys at advanced in my town. when i bought new shocks we looked at both 2wd and 4wd. for 3rd gens they both have the same part number so 2wd and 4wd shouldnt be the issue if its like gen 3's. as for the actual problem. i have never seen a shock like that. it looks like it would put way to much leverage on the bottom stud.

He has an 02 which is a gen4 with SLA suspension., different shocks than the TIB trucks.

If they are the same length extended and have the same mounting points, they will work.

the bottom flat bar is the wrong size for the system, i modified a set one time to work, but its not worth it, not real extra gains

i believe the difference is in whether or not your 2wd has coil spring front suspension (most sla 2wds) or if it has torsion bars on the front (edge package).
