i have the same question as mmz77. a friend of mine passed and his sister gave me his truck and im tring to find out whats its worth so that i can get it registered. its a 1988 ford ranger single cab inline 4, 5 speed trans, w/ a camper shell.

Value is VERY subjective. It depends on what part of the country (sometimes just one town over halves value), what condition it in, and most importantly who is buying.

As for your case, you'll probably have to have it appraised by a local car lot. If not however I'd say $1000 give or take $500 with condition should get you in the ballpark at least.

Also just to let you know most states can do what's called a "gift". Your truck is definitely old enough to qualify for it here in MO.
