My Koppla Gator cruiser electric motorcycle battery caught fire =(

About 1 hour ago i noticed a smoke smell in my living room then i went and looked out my back bedroom window and i noticed my backyard with alot of smoke so i grabbed my fire extenguisher and i said to my dad come quick then me and my dad went on our back patio and i took my cover off my koppla gator and i noticed a flame coming from my battery i handed my dad the fire extenguisher then i slide my gator with the battery having its small flame away from my home i rolled my gator off my back patio then i took the hose and washed my battery to put the flame out and i used the hose on my battery and rear of my bike for like 20 minutes i said to my dad get a bungee cord and i then used the bungee cord to hold my seat up by having the bungee cord u clamp under my seat and on the handle bar i have my battery inside a old metal wheel barrow and i used the fire extenguisher to cover the battery while it sits over night on my concrete or asphalt back patio because i dont know where my battery percent is at and that way the flame will not come back over night this is the first electric cruiser motorcycle i have owned and i dont where how or why the fire started but im safe

Im 34 years old with mild autism aspergers and add this is my first electric motorcycle.

Glad you are ok, for what its worth if they get too spicy water does nothing for a lithium ion battery fire. It must have just caught the case on fire if water put it out.

Food for thought if you keep them in or near a building, if that happened in the middle of the night and you didn't notice it...

Glad you are ok and nothing else was damaged. Lithium battery fires basically burn until all the material is gone. You can’t stop them. Best you can do is isolate and contain it, which you did by moving it away from the house.

Sorry to hear that happened and I'm glad everything is ok. That is one of the risks associated with certain types lithium ion batteries. And more and more, lithium batteries are being put into more and more stuff. Hopefully, nothing else got damaged and you can just replace the battery and maybe the seat and move on from there.
