Hi

Bought a 2003 3.0l this past spring and am already looking to up it to the super cab with the 4.0l and 4wd. I like these trucks a lot and would like to get my hands on another one I think. Plan on saving some money this winter and purchasing one with the fx4 package this spring. (fx4 package worth it? Looks like it adds a little bit of off road-ishness. enough for the likes of myself)

Wondering though, if I am looking to get some more performance, is it worth the time and effort to obtain a salvage explorer and swap in the v8 or should I just keep rolling with the v6? I have found a few sources for 4.0l performance parts to include heads, maf, cams, and even a stroker kit, but is doing performance upgrades to the v6 worth it? Was thinking of adding the m90 supercharger, perhaps in place of busting open or pulling out the engine.

Welcome to the Station. Comb through and look around, your questions have been answered.

I will say this, the 4.0 makes better torque than the 5.0 down low where it counts. The 5.0 doesn't start to win for torque until 3200 RPM and by then your load had better be moving already. Horse power is a meaningless number. Torque is how much work you can do, horse power is how fast you can do it.
